Andrea Jones* is a Projects Specialist at Healthy African American Families. She is also a Community Faculty member at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine & Science and co-teaches (with Jim Gilmore, Behavioral Health Services; Carole Eisen, Department of Mental Health; Dr. Arlene Brown and Dr. Kenneth Wells, UCLA) H266, a course on community engagement, for the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar Program at UCLA. Current projects include Community Partners in Care (CPIC), a community-based and led research project on depression funded by the National Institutes of Health. She is the Community Coordinator for the Diabetes Project, a community partnered participatory research project whose partners include Health African American Families, Charles R. Drew University of Medicine & Science, and South Los Angeles Health Projects (SLAHP). She served as Project Coordinator for the Witness4Wellness Project (W4W), a community-based partnership for building community strength and overcoming the burden on communities of depression, particularly in communities of color. She has presented at several community forums and conferences, including the 2010 Joint Statistical Meetings, Vancouver, British Columbia (with Dr. Thomas R. Belin, UCLA), and the First Annual Mental Health Day at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (with Dr. Kenneth Wells, UCLA). Ms. Jones is a co-author of several articles on community engagement, and has received 2 commendations from the County of Los Angeles for her work in the community. She is also the program assistant for the Division of Community Engagement of Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science’s “Good News Radio Magazine”, a weekly live one hour radio magazine designed to promote equity in holistic health outcomes and research involvement. Ms. Jones graduated from the Asian Pacific American Legal Center (APALC), the Martin Luther King Dispute Resolution Center (MLKDRC), and the Central American Resource Center (CARECEN) sponsored Leadership Development in Inter-Ethnic Relations Program (LDIRS) in June 2006. In December 2006, she graduated from the Community Health Leadership & Training Program, a collaboration of Community Health Councils, SCOPE, Community Coalition, and Los Angeles Trade Tech College. Her training includes “Train the Trainer”: Performing a Community Assessment, Domestic Violence, Interviewer Training, and the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science Health Science Library Pilot “A Novel Approach to Community Faculty Outreach”. She continues to pursue educational opportunities whenever possible. Ms. Jones resides in Long Beach, CA, where she enjoys reading and spending time with her grandchildren. *No relation to Loretta Jones
